DUDE! WTH!!
Monday. 1.15.07 11:14 am
Not many of you know this, but I once had a turtle. He was named Crush. Crush, the Squash-ed One. He lived in my room tank for three or four years.

Then he died last semester. It was rather strange, and out-of-the-blue. He was just dead one morning. (I might already have posted about this.) Well, since I loved Crush very much, I had an idea. We put him in a little tupperware, than in a shoe box. And we put him in the backyard, near the fire pit.

The idea was that he would decompose with as little time and stink as possible. Then we could bleach his bones, and I'd have a reminder of him (plus a complete and unharmed turtle skeleton, SCORE!). And it worked, for a while. He softened nicely. Then winter set in.

I was just now reminded by a friend of a friend that I have a turtle corpse in my backyard. I told her that I'd "BRB", and ran outside to check his progress.

Someone stole it. No box, no tupperware, and no stinking turtle. It wasn't an animal. There would be evidence. SOME SICKO STOLE MY DEAD TURTLE!!!

I think that last statement is rather ironic.

Whoa dude! How screwed up is that?!? I have 4 turtles, and one of them went missing for like 4 months (we have an outside pond thingy) and one day when my mom was gardening, she hit something hard in the soil. It was the turtle, Lispy, which survived by staying in the cold soil. For four months. Needless to say we put chicken wire around the pond now.

That's sad. And kinda weird.

But I have a question about the burial apparatus (this just gets more and more morbid). Were there holes in the tupperware? I ask for several reasons:

1. Sealing a dead animal in a semi-air-tight container like tupperware would lengthen the decomposition process as bacteria, fungi, and insects that would feed on the dead animal would not be introduced into the tupperware.

2. The slow decomposition would have to be carried out by the already-present microorganisms that preexisted when you put the dead animal in the tupperware.

3. The gases (and scents) that evolve during the decomposition process would build up in the sealed tupperware container, leaving you a very stinky surprise upon opening.

4. Depending on the size of the container and the strength of the seal, the container may have popped open anyway from gas buildup. Of course, in the event of this happening, concerns 1 through 3 go right out the window.

fuckin funny!
lol, i wonder why we wrap our dead animals so well??? i did that with my guinea pig. i put him in some cloth, and then a plastic bag and then buried him in a 1.5 ft hole. a few yrs later, we had to dig him up again. the plastic was still there and he was probably bones with flesh on it.. gross but i burst into tears cuz i loved him so much.. i was an emo kid back then (*blushes*). . lol ur entry's funny.:D

pretty much every animal we've ever buried in the yard was dug up and stolen by coyotes and foxes. I found pieces of my mother's beloved rabbit all over the place one time... didn't tell her about it, though. Even if you put a big stone over it, it doesn't help. I think the only one they didn't dig up was the parakeet, because he wouldn't have enough meat on him to be worth the trouble.

I want to laugh but I have to remember that I put my parakeet in a plastic beanie baby case to rot after she died.... *ahem*....

Stealing a dead turtle is pretty sick though.

The one who stole your dead turtle is a sicko indeed. I wonder if dead turtles smell worst than dead lizards.
